For the final installment of our blog series, we’re thrilled to share a personal story from our CEO, Ivan Touko. Bon Plantain on October 31st will not only be the last free La Connexional event of the year, but it will also mark Ivan’s first public DJ set under his alter ego, Amougivan—a name rich with meaning and inspired by his journey, his roots, and his passion for music.
Ivan’s connection to music runs deep, and the name “Amougivan” is a reflection of that connection. Originally inspired by Mugiwara No Luffy, the beloved character from the anime One Piece, Ivan resonates with Luffy’s qualities: resilience, simplicity, and a sense of purpose. Like Luffy, Ivan is drawn to the simple things that remind him of home: the ocean, handmade treasures like straw hats, and Sunset Grooves (no pun intended). Growing up in the coastal town of Kribi, Cameroon, these symbols of nature and craft have always been close to his heart.
When he first starting visualizing his DJ brand, Ivan took on the name "Mugiwara No Ivan" as a nod to Luffy's spirit. But over time, he wanted a name that truly represented his own journey. And so, “Amougivan” was born—a blend of “Mugi” (a tribute to Luffy’s iconic straw hat) and “amour” (meaning “love” in French).
For Ivan, Amougivan symbolizes “a love that gives”—a love that reaches out, lifts up, and spreads joy to everyone around. Every beat he spins, every groove he crafts is Ivan’s way of sharing this love and connection with his communities.
